SOFT GOODS: The Birds Have Landed!

Hi friends. I hope this communiqué finds you well!

First, a very big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to celebrate my new collection All My Friends Are Birds. Turns out all my friends are NOT birds.

I also want to send another huge THANK YOU to the team at MTN Space for giving my feathered friends a safe place to land.

It was a gorgeous night, filled with gorgeous people, and I especially loved my time with collectors and friends, both new and old. My absolute favorite moment, however, was seeing so many young families enjoying the work.

Family and identity are threads that run deep through my practice, so watching children laugh, identify birds, and pick their favorites made my night. One young visitor even drew her own interpretation of the exhibition. The playful and irreverent nature of the collection seemed to resonate with everyone, but there was something particularly joyful about experiencing it through the eyes of children.

Art can be serious without being solemn. It can carry complicated ideas and still make room for nonsense. In fact, I see lightness itself not as the absence of depth, but as an invitation into it.

When I was a kid, my grandmother used to say, “You catch more flies with honey,” and I’ve carried that with me ever since. It's truly empowering to approach the world with warmth and humor, especially when dealing with difficult subjects like grief or belonging. Irreverence doesn't diminish the seriousness of the conversation; it actually makes room for more of us to participate.

That seed that she planted, probably at times I was being less than charming, still finds its way into everything I do, usually in subconscious and subversive gestures. I couldn't help but think of her and feel proud to have created something that not only honored her wisdom, but that also brought families together.
